In a landmark effort, the Kenya National Action Plan II on United Nations Security Resolution 1325 was localized in Kajiado County on November 9-10, 2023. This initiative, led by County Governance Watch and supported by USAID Kenya and other partners, focused on empowering women in peace and security processes. The workshop brought together diverse stakeholders including government officials, NGOs, and community leaders, emphasizing the significance of women’s roles in peacebuilding, climate action, and national unity.

Participants gained a comprehensive understanding of UNSCR 1325 and its local relevance, addressing challenges such as tribalism, land rights, and socio-cultural issues. The workshop’s objective was to raise awareness and draft local action plans, enhancing women-led participation and conflict prevention strategies at the county level. The importance of sustainable solutions and collaborative efforts was highlighted by speakers, aligning with the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to advocate for peaceful conflict resolution.
